Land's End

Today was a very random sort of day. We were very busy again, but we went to visit a lot of places that I had never heard before. It felt quite random, but was still lots of fun. The professors claimed that it would be a more laid back sort of day but we were still keeping crazy busy I thought. (Not a bad thing though).
In the morning we began a journey to scrounge up some breakfast. Though our hostel was very nice as far as hostels go, we still were very much left on our own. Provide your own towels, soap, food and whatever else you want. Frank went and retrieved some cereal and we made toast out of some bread we found in the freezer! I was grateful that I pocketed some Nutella packets from the hotel yesterday because I got to use them today! Yum! British people are crazy about the stuff and it makes me smile.
We went over to St Ives, a pretty cool coastal town. We were given free reign for a few hours so we made our way to the beach and played around in the sand for a while. We got some ice-cream and visited on the beach and played for a while. I had to laugh when the guy serving the icecream warned us to hold on tight to our cones because the seagulls might try and take it. They are aggressive here. (Think Finding Nemo and you’ve just about got it). Fortunately I was safe and was able to finish my own ice-cream without being attacked. Phew. As fun as a story as that would have made.
Next we rode the bus some more (a very regular occurrence these days) and went to St Michael something or another. It is a very cool island that can be reached at certain points of the day when the tide is low. During these times there is a path that reaches from the mainland to an island that has a giant castle and amazing gardens. It was really cool to walk across and take a tour of the island. Our group had to split in two and some of us went through the gardens while the others went into the castle. The crazy thing is that a family actually lives in the castle right now, but they allow people to tour through it during the day. I don’t know what that would be like, but I am glad that they let us tourist people see it.
Our adventures took us to a little place called Land’s End. It’s the furthest west on the coast of all of Britain and has a few little sites to look at while there. We stood at the edge of the world and stared out at the ocean. It was really cool but was surprisingly chilly. Guess it’s cold at the end of the world. We were also there when three guys finished a huge bike ride that they had taken to cross the country. When one of the bikers made it to the end he proposed to his girlfriend and we were all there to cheer him on. That’s just what they want, a group of american tourists clapping and cheering. The girls ate that up. :) We may have even seen a whale. Unsure at this current moment.
Our last stop took us to Penzance where we were given the rest of the evening to do whatever we wanted and to get dinner. The only problem with that is that there really wasn’t too much to do. We got a great (but small) dinner at a local Italian restaurant and then walked around in the rain. Like most sea side towns, it was very beautiful, but again, there wasn’t really much to do. Fortunately we have all become really close and managed to have a good time anyways. It was also nice to be a little more laid back this evening after our big hike that we took yesterday. Night came and then we all split up to go to our separate hotels. All the guys were sent to a hotel in the middle of nowhere that doubles as a bar and casino. How about that! The wifi is kind of terrible, so I will see if I can actually get this loaded on! Photos will have to come later I suppose. Tomorrow is the last day of our West tour and I am excited to see what else they have in store for us, but I am also getting ready to head back to our London home.

Eating some delicious ice-cream on the coast.  No problems with seagulls
We bought some turkish delight! Nom nom nom
Me and Rob with the awesome island that sinks away and stuff.
Ashby, Lauren and I being ridiculous on the cool island
 Castle!
Also, we found a wishing well.
I could get used to a view like this
We found the end of the earth!
We also discovered a tiny village, which we promptly destroyed.  Though I seem to be the only one with a destroying face on.
Hopefully I will have the post for today up soon, if tonight continues to be productive.  We will see if that holds.  Right now laundry is being slightly distracting.
