In Which I Solve the Case

"Elementary my dear Watson." Fun fact, this line is actually not featured in any of Sir Arthur Doyle's Sherlock Holmes novels.  And for those of you with awesome detective-like skills, you may have already figured out that today I got to go and see some fun sights about Sherlock Holmes.  Today was another class day, so we had to sit through four hours of classes.  Fortunately Alvaro the Awesome was able to get the air conditions in our classroom working, so we were not burning hot like last time.  Classes were good and we had our first quizzes on the readings that we have been having.  Despite all the fun that I have been having, I still managed to get 100% on my quiz (hopefully that makes you rest easy mum).
After classes we were given time to explore before dinner, so I went with some friends to seek out Mr. Holmes.  We first went to Speedy's Cafe, the location featured in the television series on the BBC, Sherlock.  For those of you who are not familiar, it is a take on Sherlock Holmes placed in modern times.  So Sherlock uses stuff like cell phones and the internet, and is even more socially awkward, preferring texting to speaking with people.  (It's also written by Steven Moffat, head writer of Doctor Who.  A plus).  Anywho, we went to the Cafe and ordered their Sherlock wrap, which was delicious.  The owner was also there, and we was excited when we said that we were Sherlock fans and showed us pictures of him and the actors from his iPhone.  It was really fun to sit down and talk with him about the actors and the show.  I've only finished the first season myself, but it was still really fun to be able to visit one of the locations of the set!
We then made our way over to Baker Street to see the Sherlock Holmes Museum at 221b (the address of Sherlock Holmes' house from the novels).  Unfortunately I had to make my way back to the center to help prepare dinner, so our stay was short.  We didn't get to enter the actual museum today, but were able to see the souvenir shop and take some great pictures.  A really nice man stands outside the museum and offers tourists hats so that they can take fun photos.  He was very talkative for being so unsmiley, and he is now my friend. We hope to return and see the museum later, and I hope our friend is there.  We also went inside the gift shop to get some ideas for stuff to buy later.  The gift shop was really fun, so I can only imagine how the museum will be later.  They had some cards that had the shop information on it as if they were business cards for Sherlock.  I told the lady behind the counter that I had a question, and asked if the cards were free.  She said, "Yes.  Case solved." That made me grin.  People are cool.
And thus concludes the day.  Today wasn't as busy as other days have been, but I am actually grateful for that.  After so much adventuring I've been getting tired.  We also are now watching the Italy vs Germany football game here at the center (deciding that pubs seemed too busy like tonight).  I also  helped out with dinner for the last time because my week is over and spent the rest of the evening reading more for classes. I hope to be all rested for when we go to see more sights tomorrow.  Tower of London!!!

  1. Jace I just found your blog, and this is awesome! I can't believe that you're on a study abroad in London. That's super cool. Try to find the Leaky Cauldron for me, okay?

  2. Mum here. I'm rather pleased with your stupendous efforts at being studious throughout your prodigious adventures. Carry on with that, chap. I simply adore your photos and hope they will continue in true Jace-fashion. Persevere in befriending the glum. As for here in jolly old Spanish Fork, I shall continue to keep windows shut from the fire ash as the entire state seems to be burning completely up. Skies are gray and red with no rain in sight. Might you send a bit of the London drizzle our way????
