Breath taking....for reals

So we had our first classes today (those were not the things that were breathtaking).  After a breakfast of British yogurt including apple pie flavors we had our first classrooms.  The center has a classroom that fits us all upstairs and it was interesting.  It's funny to see that even here in London the first day of class still consists of syllabus reading and class rules.  So that was interesting.  People all looked dead tired and most of them blamed it in on jet lag.  I don't know if we've just been abusing that excuse to death, or if it is really a problem.  I haven't really been having any issues with that.  I am blessed.  Or awesome.  Something like that.
We had an hour break after that so we walked around trying to find some good food, which is not a hard thing to find here.  There are food places everywhere, and in so many different varieties.  Have I mentioned that this place is such a melting pot?  There are so many different cultures here, it's really amazing. Every day I swear I hear new languages, aside from the variations of English I have been hearing as well.
Also.....I got lost in a giant store.  There is giant department/mall like store here called Harrods.  It is seriously MASSIVE!  It's similar to malls except there is no "hallway" leading to other stores.  They are all just connected to one another.  You walk out of one and you are instantly in another.  I wanted to take pictures, but there are workers everywhere that are ready to pounce if you try it.  If you get a moment see if you can google Harrod's Egyptian Escalator.  So cool.  We also saw a plate that was made of silver, had gold leaf rims, and diamonds around the inside.  So shiny, but SOOOOO expensive.  Also....giant chocolate store.  The chocolate here is evil.  So delicious but so bad for you!  And we couldn't find our way out!!!! Seriously, we were lost in a store.  I can manage to find my way through London, but I couldn't get out of that store.  This is a weird world.
And now for the BREATHTAKING!  I went to see the London Symphony at St. Paul's Cathedral.  The entire study abroad group went together to see this concert.  When we came off the tube I saw another cathedral that was tiny, and I was very disappointed.  Little did I know the actual cathedral was behind us.  It was huge, it was beautiful, it was amazing. And that was before I even went inside.  I don't even know how to go about describing it. See if you can find pictures. They still won't do it justice.  It was one of the few times that I have ever really been speechless.  And then we got to listen an amazing concert.  I can't believe how amazing this trip has been already.....and today was not over yet.
The instructors went back to the center while we all decided we wanted to cross the Thames on the Millennium Bridge.  Not only was the bridge very cool looking, but it's also on Harry Potter 6!  The Death Eaters destroy it at the beginning of the movie! I'VE BEEN TO THERE!  It was dark, so we will have to go back sometime to see it during the day.  But in the distance we could see the London Bridge and the Globe Theatre!  Those come later!  We made our way back and my self was full of goodness.   More adventures to come (and hopefully pictures as well).

  1. Breathtaking indeed! What a feast of sights and sounds you've had today. I'm so glad you could appreciate the Symphony as well as the beauty of the Cathedral. An epicurean's delight. Keep enjoying my friend.
