Last Thursday I went to the first prep class for London Study abroad. I've been so excited to go and finally meet the people that I will be traveling with. We have had a Facebook group for a while, but it's always different meeting people in person. After the class, I am now even more excited to be going to London. Our professors seem great, and I met a lot of people in class as well. We are all different, but share an excitement to go out and have an adventure.
To start off we all introduced ourselves. There are about eight guys, and twenty to thirty girls that will be going. That should be quite interesting methinks. ;) Then a lady from the travel office here at BYU told us a little about getting flights and general airport information. I was quite surprised when told that the average cost of a flight would be $1500. When I searched a few weeks back I had seen that flights would be about $800. Turns out that there is also a London, Canada. So if you want a cheaper flight, head out there. Woops! They talked about how there is a group flight that we can pay for and go with twenty other people. There are also a lot of people who want to travel even more before and after the program. I hadn't thought about that before, and think that it would be cool to consider something like that as well! (Though I can't go too long after the program, so I may need to consider a pre-program trip).
We took a quiz which fortunately was not that bad. It was taken from the History of England book that we have been reading, and is actually quite interesting.
Now for some of the really fun stuff. We will be discussing our trip in more details in later classes, but Professor Jacoby briefly mentioned a few of the places. I don't know some of them, and will be getting on Google soon. :) We will be traveling to Bath, Hadrian's Wall, Once Brewed (a town near Hadrian's Wall), the statue of Queen Boudica, York, spend a night on a cornish coast, the Tower of London, Canterbury Cathedral, Warrick Castle, Hampton Court, the Mary Rose (a ship), The Globe Theatre where we will be seeing Richard III and Henry V, the monument of the Great Fire, the Harbor of Portsmith and Hyde Park (which is actually right next to our flat). Like I said, I don't know most of these, but they sound amazing!
So overall, class was great, and I am so ready to go! Now I need to go and look into flights and all of that fun stuff!
