I'm trying to find the words to describe my day today, and the only thing that really comes to mind is...Monday. It definitely felt like your stereotypical moan inducing sort of Monday. It's funny because on this trip I usually can't quite keep track of what day of the week it is, but today I kept thinking, "Wow, it's only Monday." This morning we woke up bright and early so that we could run over to Hyde Park Chapel and take the first of our two finals. Today's final is brought to you by Brett's class. Everyone had that look in their eye that said they were SO excited to be there. Fortunately I think the final went really well. None of the questions really stumped me, and I they were all essay response questions, which I can handle. After we all finished up with that, my group met up so we could practice our scene for George's final.
As for the rest of the day...it kind of vanished after that. Brett's final actually had two parts: the in class portion that we finished this morning and a take home essay portion that was due this evening. George also had one last essay assigned that was due this evening as well. I went back to the flats so I could write these two essays, both of which I put off until today in typical college fashion. I spent pretty much my entire day trying to get those two essays done. When Jace is struggling with an assignment, he will sit down and work on it for a bit, and then get distracted. And sit down and work on it for a bit, and then get distracted. So though the two essays probably did not take me any longer than two hours or so, I ended up spending most of my day in the flats "working" on my papers.
The one moment of rescue came when a group of us decided to go to a pub so that we could watch the USA vs Ghana football (soccer) game. There's a pub called The Old King's Head that Ben had heard about. Apparently a bunch of Americans and American Supporters were going to this particular pub, and we decided to join in on the fun. We had to take the tube out by the Shard/Borough Market area, which is a decent ways out. The pub was actually pretty small, and it was jam packed with a bunch of rowdy Americans. On a scale from bar to pub, this definitely felt more like your typical bar setting. As we waited around for the game to start I had a drunk man dance all over my feet and someone spilled some alcohol on me. It was awesome. The game finally started up, and immediately went to town as USA scored on Ghana within the first thirty seconds. That set us off. By about fifteen minutes into the game, Dallin and I decided that we had our fill of an English pub filled up with Americans, and we made our way back to the flats for the evening. The game is still going, and I've been checking updates on my phone. I hope that the others in our group find their way back, considering the tube station will now be closed. That'll be an adventure!
And that's my day! Not really all that adventurous. George's final will take place tomorrow morning, and then we will be free for the rest of the trip (Tuesday and Wednesday). I am quite excited, and hopefully that means I will be much more adventurous than I was today!
